Physical therapy is used as both a treatment and as post-operative care. The goal of physical therapy is: return of motion, increased range of motion, elimination of pain, and injury prevention. Many orthopedic surgeries require the joint to be immobilized for a period of time following the procedure. This coupled with swelling and stiffness can cause the joint to remain in an immobilized state. Physical therapy can help you regain the mobility you will need to both heal properly and resume your daily activities.
